Legal/Regulatory Specialist

Lisa Pittman

Lisa L. Pittman is a Texas attorney with eight years of dedicated experience in the cannabis industry in multiple states, and before that, 20 years in commercial business litigation.  She generally specializes below the Mason Dixon line, though she spent two years in Colorado to learn the ropes and became licensed there.  In 2015-18, she advised LSU on its unique role in Louisiana’s medical marijuana program, including preparing the application and score card for its subcontracted grow.  She has worked in Texas and consulted in the surrounding states on policy and on competitive medical marijuana licensing.

Ms. Pittman focuses her practice on investors, farmers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and others supporting the emerging cannabis industry.  For her groundbreaking work, Ms. Pittman was appointed as a Non-Resident Fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, Drug Policy Program, was named counsel to the Texas Department of Agriculture Industrial Hemp Advisory Council, was elected Chair of the American Bar Association’s Cannabis Law & Policy Committee, and finally, was coined “The First Lady of Texas Cannabis Law.”

In 2020, Ms. Pittman filed an Amicus Curiae brief against the DEA in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in support of Dr. Sue Sisley’s efforts to research the therapeutic benefits of cannabis for veterans with PTSD.  In 2020, Ms. Pittman was also awarded the National Law Journal Trailblazer Award for Cannabis Law, the Texas Lawyer Trailblazer Award, and she was selected by Cannabis Law Report as a Top 200 Global Cannabis Attorney.  Ms. Pittman has graduated from three Leadership Academies:  2017 Leadership Austin, 2016 Austin Bar Association, and 2015 American Bar Association.  A leader on the legality of plant-based medicines, Ms. Pittman lectures and publishes regularly on these issues across the country and in Latin America.  Ms. Pittman has been quoted in national media including the New York Times, Forbes, Washington Post, MJBiz Daily and more.

While most big law and consulting firms flock north to serve the Coastal elites, Ms. Pittman, a native Texan with family roots in Alabama, has been focused on monitoring the progress here.  Finally, the time has come and Ms. Pittman is excited for the chance to help applicants in the Southern states acquire licensing and carefully plan for their future growth while avoiding the mistakes of others.

She would like to serve as your resource in harnessing the opportunity of your State’s medical marijuana program.  Feel free to contact her at Lisa@SouthernHighPoints.com
